Temperature gauge not working

When I turn on the ignition, the needle just does not move. I have checked the fuses (under dash drivers side) and engine compartment (passenger side) checked connections at the thermostat (not sure if I am naming it right) that screw into the thermostat housing (two of them), flushed radiator (new antifreeze) still nothing. Oh, by the way my heater core is leaking, so the heater core is bypassed (If this information is of any help). Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you. RW

It sounds like you have an engine coolant temperature sensor that is not working. Here is a guide help show you what you are in for when doing the job and the locations for your car below:

Found the one wire sender, replaced it with new sender, still no change. Needle still does not move. So I got used cluster and installed it everything working great again. Thanks for your help. I love this site.

Four cylinder two wheel drive automatic

Good morning. The temperature gauge will stay at the quarter mark until it is driven for awhile and then it reaches the operating temperature just under the half way mark. If I do not left it reach operating temperature and shut it off the temperature gauge will stay at the quarter mark instead of returning to the bottom. I have replaced the temperature sensor and it did not fix it. I also sometimes smell antifreeze but I have no leaks and the engine never overheats. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I think the temperature gauge could be sticking.

This is most probably the gauge itself or its gound is poor.

I had a new thermostat installed with coolant. The issue is that my temperature gauge is still rising when I drive. What could this be a sign of?

Could be a clogged radiator, defective water pump or airlock. Check these things out, if okay get it block and pressure tested.
