Have a 2000 chevy silverado with a 5.3 motor. When I start it when its cold it makes a slight knocking sound when I put it in drive for about five seconds and then it goes away. Only does it when its cold. Never when it s warm. And it doesnt do it when it is in park. Any ideas?

If the noise is coming from the upper end of the engine -could be a lifter leakdown problem-try engine flush and see what happens

I am a little leary about an engine flush. Ive read a lot of horror stories about them. Any other ideas besides replacing the lifters?
