I've been hearing complaints about Dex Cool even though my ZR2 S10 has it in it. Can't certain alternatives be used without problems? I would also like your opinion on antifreezes that claim that they are compatible for all makes, models or color antifreeze. Does the last part of that statement mean you can mix them with other antifreezes?

Dex cool is ok as long as you don't mix ethylene glycol (green) anti freeze with it. The other that say they are compatible are ok to use.

I understood when you said not to mix green antifreeze with Dex Cool. As far as the other part of your reply, I'm splitting hairs here I'm sure but when you said the others that say they are compatible can be used, do you mean use them instead of Dex Cool or can be mixed with Dex Cool?

You can do both mix them or use them in place. However manufacturers want the original type coolant in it. I hope this clarifies it for you. If you have another gallon container you can get the regular stuff without water and end up with 2 gallons of 50/50 mix which is the best for your vehicle unless you live like in Northern Canada/ Alaska etc. Just make sure to mark containers so you know what you have.
