1st problem - coolant light - now MULTIPLE problems

Car originally taken in for 'intermittent' cooltant light - said it was repaired but 2 days later it 'died' - parked in lot and wouldn't turn on again - altho windows/radio/battery okay - allowed it to be towed to 'mechanic' who was 'experienced' in Audi's - he has had it 6 weeks and still nothing. I did get it back after the first 4 days - saying it was a 'coolant hose' - when I starting driving it 'overheat' HORRIBLY. And the 6 week saga began - he tells me that the cooling fans aren't activating and can find where the problem is - turns out he doesn't know audi's at all and now it is in pieces from the back seat to the dash - the latest thing is that possibly a main fuse/relay center needs replacing.

In all fairness I should note that when I bought the car (in 2004) that the tach didn't work and then in 2007 the gas gauge stopped working - but I didn't think that would have much to do with it - the mechanic says there are no wiring/electrical diagrams to be found for a 1998 Audi cabriolet. The car is an absolute mess - I know this is not much to go on - maybe i'm just venting and want somebody to fix my car - I have suggested numerous times to have someone else take a look, but with it in 'pieces' nobody is willing to touch it.

Wow first let me say I am sorry for your frustration and what a frustration that would be. I am not an Audi expert but I have worked on them and I do have access to repair info and some wiring diagrams for them, I also have good connections with a local Audi dealer that has proven to be helpful to me when needed. So if you would let me know what I can do to help and what I can provide for you I will do my best to help. Am I to understand that you have this car back in your possession or is it still at the shop? Get back to me and lets see if we can put this car back together

Car 'still' in the shop - he (repair guy) is waiting on a 'main fuse/relay center' (he says that it is something that is located in dash on driver side) which 'evidently there is only one to be found in the Columbus OH area. He is supposedly getting it from MAG which is a well-known Audi dealer here in Columbus, OH and supposedly they sent him the wrong one yesterday. So if they are so good - why did they send him the wrong one 0 I know human error - I even offered to go pick up the part - how sad is that - but when you have been without a car for 6 weeks - you'll do anything :). I'm going to probe him to see if he needs diagrams or anything, but he is very defensive when I comment that I have been 'asking questions online' - he won't even look at the info I've gathered thus far just to see if he has 'thought' of it or if it would even pertain to the situation - and i'm just going off of 'key words' that he has said. To be honest with yu - I'm going to be petrified to drive this car if it ever gets done. He has complained about the fuses not being labelled properly and are labeled for a Volkswagen cabrio - i'm at a lost!

I bet you are lost, and I would say not to take him another car he should be open to idea's if nothing else just to read it over to see if it will help. As for the wrong part many way's that can happen. One the mechanic doesn't have all the correct answers so he just say's yes or the vin number wasn't used to insure the right part or just error of the human kind. If any wiring diagrams are needed I am more then willing to get them and include them so you can print them. As a mechanic I am sorry that you having to deal with this it is just bad business. Let me know what I can do.

Hey racefan966 - is is not 12 weeks and my audi cabriolet is still not fixed - it was towed to a 'foreign car specialist' shop and they 'looked at ' it - but would not fit it - because they 'didn't want to get involved' - they said that the 1998 Audi Cabriolet doesn't have wiring diagrams because it (the 98 cabriolet is a 'mix' of several different version of Audi A4, A8, etc etc from 1991-1997' - whether this is true or not - I have no clue and can find nothing on the internet saying so. The 'foreign car specialist' 'thinks' that it needs a new 'main engine wiring harness/assembly' and then something to make the 'cooling fans activate. The car has now been returned to the orginal repair shop. I am told the only place to find these parts is from a 'Audi' Salvage yard in upstate NY - called Shokan. Is there any wiring diagrams for the 98 Audi Cabriolet or are these guys correct in saying that there are none for this car?

I was expecting to get a response to my July 5th note - how do I get a copy of the 'real' wiring diagrams based on what people have said that I need - I was hoping to get the proper wiring diagrams for this 1998 Audi Cabriolet - vin #WAUAA88G9WK000283 - is it true that this year/make/model is comprised of wiring diagrams from different 'versions' of audi makes/models? Please help - they are telling me that I need a 'main engine wire harness/assembly' is that the right wording also is this the only harness/assembly that we have to worry about? Are there others that I need to look into?

The wiring diagrams are in sections. IE a/c, instrument cluster, computer data and so on, so what part of it might you need? If you could help me with that I will look up and see what I can find on that section. Sorry you are having so much trouble with this.

Is there no way to get all of it - is it true that this '98 "Audi is wired like a volkswagon and other models of Audi's A4, etc? Two mechancis are telling me that all the 'diagrams' they are getting do not follow what they are 'seeing' in the car'. If I were to guess and could only pick one - I would go for the instrument, and/or computer data. Based on what they tell me is that I need a new 'main engine wiring assembly' or something to that affect - unfortunately, I am doing the leg work for the mechanic who is trying to fix this car after.

Sorry no real way for me to send it all as it would max my internet it is literally pages and pages of wiring. The way mitchell is set up I have to print it then scan it and then upload it and post it. So if I could find out what is needed I can do that or I can give you color or the wiring and the fuse that controls that and where the ground goes and so on. A good shop should have access to Mitchell 1 or something like it. I also see nothing that say's it is a mix of A4 and such for wiring. For example I show that the cooling fan is controlled by fuse number 12 and number 15 and the power wires are blue with red stripe to the aux fan as well as to the cooling fan switch.

Can/will you provide info/diagrams on relay/fuse panel, info on the wires that go from the fuse box, and also info on the cooling system - is that a possibility?

I can look up wiring in sections like engine cooling fans, and instrument cluster and small sections like that. This is how mitchelle 1 lists them. Now the other problem is I have to print them then scan to upload to my computer then finally save a pic to upload to the sight. It would be easier to tell you what the wire colors are and what they do and go to. Will that work.
