Just bought the truck, so no history. Symptoms: hard start, will not stay running, misfire, backfire, black smoke out tailpipe, spit, sputter, b##ch and complain then die, generally runs like crap when it does run. Pulled code for crank/cam sensor, replaced, code gone. Cleaned MAF, no difference. Checked for vacuum leaks, none visible. No more codes, but emissions warning lights on scanner are lit up like a Christmas tree. Any common problems with Frontiers or a place to start would be appreciated.

Check fuel pressure with a gauge it may be pump or regulator, plug gets fouled then backfires or runs like crap. Auto parts rent it. Should be 34 psi at idle w/vacuum connected and 43 w/o

Figured it out. Weak spark. It was still sparking off, but not nice blue like expected, causing gas not to be burnt, misfire, backfire, etc. Tested with spark tester several times, kept getting less and less. Changed distributor/coil, fired right up. After clearing her throat of a little soot, she's g2g. Yay ?
