Car doesn't start sometimes

I have a 1999 Mitisbushi Montero Sport XLS. My problem is that some mornings it will not start and some mornings it will. When you turn the key on it will just click. You can open the hatch and shut it and then it will start, so far. Once it starts that it will start the rest of the day. What might be the problem?

It is a power interruption somewhere and could be due a failing starter, poor battery terminal connections or a poor ground somewhere.

I would suggest checking the starter first. When engine could not be started, open the hood and retest. F it does not start, use a mallet to tap the stsrter motor and retry. If it works, the starter is failing.
