Oil issues with an 1999 Lexus 300

We have a 1999 Lexus 300. We bought it about 6 months ago. On a long trip the oil light kept coming on every 200 miles or so, and we added oil. It also has started smoking when you start the car. What do you think the problem is and is it expensive to fix? I have read certain repair issues about this problem, but thought I would ask. Thank you!

The engine is consuming engine oil due to worn valve seals and possibly piston rings as well. A rebuild is due and it can cast between 2 to 4 k depending on where you are located.

Check locally for an accurate quote.
