Check engine and track off lights

While driving today the check engine and track off lights came on in my car. I then took it to the dealership I received the 1999 Lexus ES300 from (have only had the car for 3 weeks). The on site mechanic then looked at my car and did something to make both lights go off. As I was driving home afterwards both lights came back on. Should I be taking my car to a mechanic or is there something I can do from home to fix it?

All they did is erase the codes and diagnostic info. They didn't even try to fix anything.
