Alternator was recently repaired and installed. Car continues to lose power after a short time; battery life is inconsistent, can be good anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Alternator has been professionally tested; while in and out of the car. While out of the car, testing indicates no issue with the alternator. However, testing it while installed indicates it was bad. After inspecting the alternator myself, it appears that the plastic shroud has been broken off of the battery post due to tightening; perhaps causing a short or a bad ground?

I repaired the broken plastic and reinstalled the alternator, but the symptoms were unchanged. All fuses look good. It seems that when the engine is cool, the alternator works fine. It is not until the car warms up that the battery voltage drops. I am wondering if this is actually an issue with the wiring harness, or should I cease repairng and just buy a new alternator?

EVER HEAR OF A PARASITIC DRAIN?

SOME ARE NORMAL AND ARE LOW DRAWS, LIKE THE MEMORY FOR THE RADIO

"YOU TUBE" HAS A NUMBER OF VIDEOS ON THE SUBJECT, SOME ARE EXPLAINED BETTER THAN OTHERS, YOU MIGHT ALSO SEE ONE USING A TYPE METER, YOU MAY ALREADY HAVE.

JUST TO SORTA LET YOU KNOW THAT A DRAIN AIN'T GOTTA BE A LIGHT LEFT ON IN THE TRUNK OR SOMETHING YOU MIGHT THINK OF AS OBVIOUS, SEE MY LINK

YOU PROBABLY AIN'T LIKIN' MY CAPS, I FOUND I MAKE LESS MISTAKES, NOT HAVING TO SHIFT, AND BEING A SLOW SELF TAUGHT HUNT AND PECKER. BESIDES, CAPS ARE USED TO STRESS "IMPORTANCE", WELL, I FEEL THAT MY REPLIES ARE "IMPORTANT"! (I USE CAPS FOR EVERY REPLY)

THAT "HOLLERING" TWIST HAD TO HAVE BEEN MADE UP BY SOME OVER-DRAMATIZED TEEN-AGED FEMALE TEXTER (YET ANOTHER "LET'S GO BACK IN TIME", TIME CONSUMING OPERATION, WHEN TALKING GETS THE JOB DONE FAST,YOU INSTANTLY KNOW IF THE MESSAGE WAS RECEIVED AND THERE'S NO DOUBT ABOUT THE OTHER FELLER'S STATE OF EMOTION!)

THE LINKING KEEPS ME FROM DOIN' HOURS OF PECKING, WHEN I ALREADY DID IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

THIS IS JUST ONE ITEM, IT'S NOT THE CHEAPEST (YET) NOR, THE MOST EXPENSIVE, THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH USING REMANS, IN FACT, IT'S THE BETTER DEAL TO ME, IT HAS A LIFETIME WARRANTY! (I LIKE LIFETIME WARRANTY'S, THEY HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GOOD TO ME!)

NOW THEN, IF YOU NEED ONE (OR ANYTHING ELSE)

TIME TO "POSSIBLY" SAVE YOU SOME $$$! (IF THIS WORKS FOR YOU) "A124" WAS STILL WORKING TWO WEEKS AGO! READ MY LAST LINK, UNDERSTAND HOW THIS WORKS, HOW TO "MAXIMIZE", OR HOW TO USE A SIMILAR METHOD FOR A DIFFERENT STORE.

HERE'S HOW I DON'T GET SCREWED WITH WARRANTY PARTS, 99% OF THE TIME, THEY DON'T EVEN PRESENT ANY QUESTION AT ALL, THEY JUST MAKE ME HAPPY!
THIS LINK WAS BACK WHEN I "TRIED" TO USE LOWER CASE, CLICK ON MY PICS, YOU'LL SEE THAT MOST OF MY JEEP'S WEARING PARTS, ARE NOW FREE!
