Alternator was recently repaired and installed. Car continues to lose power after a short time; battery life is inconsistent, can be good anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Alternator has been professionally tested; while in and out of the car. While out of the car, testing indicates no issue with the alternator. However, testing it while installed indicates it was bad. After inspecting the alternator myself, it appears that the plastic shroud has been broken off of the battery post due to tightening; perhaps causing a short or a bad ground?
I repaired the broken plastic and reinstalled the alternator, but the symptoms were unchanged. All fuses look good. It seems that when the engine is cool, the alternator works fine. It is not until the car warms up that the battery voltage drops. I am wondering if this is actually an issue with the wiring harness, or should I cease repairng and just buy a new alternator?
have the same problem?
