I have a 99 Ford Windstar that I've been told by a ford dealership needs a power steering pump, tention arm and rack and pinon (sp?) They say the cost would be around $2ooo+ I feel this is a very high price, so if you could please let me know if this is an average price for repairs like this. By the way I live in northwestern IL.
Thank You for You time

At a dealer that is probably not out of line. The List prices for parts at dealers are very high. You might look for an independent shop that can install quality aftermarket parts for less.

That cost sounds fair, Ford did a good job of burrying the pump in the engine compartment, also a good job of burrying the rack & pinion assembly, basically they have to remove the engine sub frame to get to the part, then once changed an alignment must be done to make sure it steers correctly.

If it needs all those parts we're looking at about $700 in parts, now the labor the dealer is a little high $125hr you can probably find a cheaper shop
