Speedometer/Odometer and Trip meter not working. Replaced Vehicle Speed sensor and still no change. Transmission shifts roughly an am told this is a sign also of Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) not working. I have checked all fuses visually and with multimeter to ensure working. All else on car is working. Code came up for Speed Sensor and O2 sensor but otherwise clear. I would like to test the connector of the VSS but do not know what the voltage should be and also check the VSS for resistance, again unknown values. Everything I have seen on the internet shows a VSS with a gear that spins, this is not the one that I have. Mine looks like this one from Autozone. See Picture.

The vss is a signal generator. Just ohming it out will not tell you if it is good. Around 800 ohms is normal.

The real way to check is to use a scan tool and monitor the vss and see if it is generating a signal and sending it to the pcm.

What kind of scan tool? I have an OBD II scanner, but it is only for Key on engine off. Will this work?

Also, do know it there is more than one speed sensor on this car and where the second is located? I found the VSS on the driver's side.

A code reader will not work. You need a real scan tool.

The vss is on the passenger side or the output shaft on the right side by where the axle goes in.
