Dome light comes on in reverse

I purchased a used 1999 Ford Ranger extended cab and my dome light comes on every time I go into reverse. It's a bear trying to back up at night. How do I shut this feature off?

I don't think that is an intended feature. It sounds like there may be either a short in the wiring or a problem in the General Lighting control module. It's going to take a competent electrical technician and a professional scan tool to get to the bottom of it.
