How to set timing marks on a 1999 Dodge Stratus, 2.4l engine so car will start. I just had a head gasket put on. Now car will not start but will crank or turn over. The mechanic took to crankshaft and cam off the car. The timing was not set. How do I set the timing marks.

You have much bigger problems. Why didn't the mechanic finish the job? If the timing belt is off by three or more teeth, the open valves will hit the pistons and be bent. That means starting all over with a new head gasket after replacing the bent valves.

On the other hand, if he removed the camshafts and they haven't been reinstalled yet, all of the valves will be closed and they will not be damaged. Please tell me that's what happened. I can't access the photos to show the timing marks but I can draw a diagram that should help.
