I have a 98 Ford escort ZX2 a couple days ago I was driving it and I made a normal turn. I heard a pop then my power steering went out and the battery light came on. The people at Advanced auto thought it was the alternator. My boyfriend saw that the alternator belt came off so we replaced it and now it keeps coming off if I drive it too much in one day. When it first happened we put power steering fluid in it and we over filled it. Every time the belt came off we would find liquid on it (which was power steering fluid). We took some of it out, and now there is green liquid on it. I'm guessing anti freeze. Now it is sitting in the driveway. I really need some help to figure out what's wrong with it without costing me a good bit of money. Thanks in advance.

You might just have to replace the power steering pump, because it sounds like its going bad. I would say that it might just be the pulley on the pump, but if you see that fluid is coming out those are signs that your pump is going. Try making sure the belt is tight when you put it on. There is a drive belt tensioner.

If it is the power steering pulley then why would it be leaking anti freeze? This is the diagram that matches my car.
