Hi my name is Christian im currently in maryland and ive got a 98 chevy silverado 5.7. My trouble is I was on the highway and my motor choked out and its throwing a o2 code and im thinking my cat conv is clogged? Im wondering if I make some sort of straight pipes for it till I can replace this system or if it will harm the motor or computer. Ive got no cash to fix it till I can drive back to atlanta ga and see some family to help. The drive is around 600 miles and around a 12 hour drive. This truck and I have been through hell and back. The best thing for me to do is sell it but the title is in my moms name and she died in 2001 and no idea of where the title may be. Any thoughts on any of this would be very helpful and much appreciated. Thanks

You can use a test pipe temporarily or puncture thru the catalytic converter

What was the exact code number set?
Installing a pipe in place of a converter is not something you do in your back yard without a torch and most exhaust shops will refuse to do that because it's against federal law.
