I have a 1998 BMW 528i, automatic. The car runs great with the MAF unplugged except I get a really, really harsh shift from 2nd to 3rd. Could the MAF be contributing to this problem or not? Car will not run with MAF plugged in so I'm sure its bad.

I try not to rush into the problem, if the replacement of the mass air flow meter is needed, will you replace it? Let's get the diagnostic process confirmed with proving it's bad or replacement first before the other issue is dealt with.
