Car has a rebuilt transmission. Will drive full speed, rpm's stay at 2500 or under. No check engine light. D4 light will not light up. Car runs and idles fine. No overheating or other issues. Has a poor battery, a little corroded that may need replacement. Going to try that first. Shifter will go into all gears and it acts like it is shifting but not sticking into fourth gear. I want to fix it and not sell for almost nothing as I feel it is probably a small issue but without codes I do not know where to start. I have been told everything from cleaning the shift solenoid to battery replacement to sensors. I cannot afford to randomly replace parts.

It sounds like you have an output shaft speed sensor that is not working but to confirm the problem lets read the codes to confirm the failure.

Here is a guide to get us started:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/checking-a-service-engine-soon-or-check-engine-light-on-or-flashing

if the sensor is bad here is a video of what it will take to fix it.

Please let us know what you find.

It does not have any codes at all, stored or otherwise. No check engine light and no flashing D4 light.

Sorry to hear that, the only other thing that would cause that then is an internal transmission problem. I would contact the re-builder and see what they have to say about it.

Please let us know what they say.
