My car won't stay running when cranked. It sputters and then goes dead. It also dies when the gas pedal is pressed. It idles high for a brief moment also. What could potential problems be?

Do you have any codes?Sounds like you could have a bad coolant temp sensor I would also inspect the connector too it if its corroded you will have to replace it. The sensors are only 10 and are screwed into the head below where the upper radiator hose hooks on. There are two wires going to it a black one and a yellow one.

No codes. There was a bad storm here last night and water came up high to the car. Saturn SL2 1998 1.9 litre.

So did the starting concern start after the water and the storm?How high did the water get on the car?Did any get inside the car?

No. Checked for water in engine. Found no signs at all. Checked every possible place I could think of.
