I have a 97 saturn sc2 that when I apply the brakes the idle drops out and almost makes the car die. I have replaced the plugs and coolant temp sensor and cleaned the throttle body. Any ideas what this could be

So idles fine till you step on the brake then idle drops and gets unstable?I have seen colasped brake booster vacuum hoses do that so inspect that hose. ALso I have seen leaky brake boosters do that as well. It only does this at idle when steping on the brake not while driving?

Yeah mostly then. It idles at about 900 or so when just sitting in park or neautral. Could the coolant temp sensor connector be causing it

Was the coolant temp sensor connector terminals green or blue instead of silver? If so your going to have to replace the connector that skews the actual temp readings. Did you check the other things I mentioned to you?
