The red warning light turns on for three things. Parking brake pedal is not fully released, (try pulling it up with your foot), brake fluid level is low in the master cylinder reservoir, (due to a leak or the front disc brake pads are worn out and must be replaced), or there are unequal pressures in the two hydraulic systems, typically due to a leak. The pedal will go down further than normal when there is a leak.
