1997 Ford Escort 2.0 Liter:

Recently it seems that the car is running cold. Last night, after sitting outside for 8 hours (temp 28 degrees) I drove it 15 miles. The temp. Gauge barely got into the normal range and dropped at one point to where the needle was lined up with the first line on the gauge. I noticed the defroster took way longer to clear the windshield. Also I did get heat but it took a long time.

Is it a tough job to replace the thermostat?

Are there any other possibilities causing the problem that I should look for while I am replacing the thermostat?
