When I turned the heat on the windshield defrost position, air only blows out from the driver side, but not the passenger side. When I change the position to panel or floor, everything works just fine.

There is a door that opens and closes when you turn the temperature setting from cold to hot this is to open air flow from the heater. Then there iare door flaps for each side of the windshield defroster.
The following are likely the source of the problem;

The heater door is not moving all the way open and the passenger side is getting blocked off.

The door is controlled by vacuum and electrical actuators to open said doors. So, the actuator for the passenger side defrost mode is the most likely source of the problem. It is hard to work under the dash and the defrost doors are so far under the dash that the dash will at least have to be partially removed. The worst case as tthe whole dash may need to be moved enough, or removed. The bast case is there could be a way to get to the actuator control, e.G. The electrical or vacuum signal that sends the signal to open the doors.

It is a labor intensive job in any case.

I hope this helps.
