Drove to gas station. Got gas. Tried to start and starter doesn't engage. Only spins. Installed starter from junkyard. Same result. Installed new starter. Same thing. Flywheel looks ok.

I also have this same problem. The truck is an automatic. On the starter that I took out you could see just after the bendix that the flywheel was rubbing the end cone. Replaced starter with reman and won't engage, bendix just shy of flywheel. Thought autoparts store sold me wrong starter, but this is the longer of the two starters. Let me know, Thanks

DISCONNECT BATTERYREMOVE STARTER

ROTATE ENGINE W/ RATCHET/ WRENCH

WHILE THIS IS ROTATED AT VARIOUS POINTS ON THE FLYWHEEL, THRU THE STARTER'S WELL/ HOLE

MEASURE FROM A STATIONARY POINT TO THE FLYWHEEL----OR USE A DOWEL OR OTHER W/ A MARK ON IT

SEE IF THE MEASUREMENTS DIFFER

THIS MAY PROVE OR DISPROVE WHETHER THE FLYWHEEL IS WARPED

IF IT IS---TEETH MAY BE TOO FAR AWAY FROM THE STARTER'S TEETH

IMMA JEEP CJ KINDA GUY I NEVER SEE THIS WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION HEAVY FLYWHEEL.I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN ON AN AUTOMATIC W/ A THIN FLYWHEEL ON OTHER CARS

Took tranny out of truck and found center section broken on flywheel. New flywheel isn't spaced right to fit. Do you take the spacer from the old flywheel or is there to be a spacer with the new flywheel? If you are to reuse the old one, it would take some grinding and cleaning up. If anybody knows please let me know, Thanks
