My ford explorer won't accelerate over 15mph, what should I check first


Funny smell, I think is antifreeze

If the smell is sweet, it is antifreeze.
Check coolant level.

For the non accelerating problem.
Is the Check Engine Lamp indicating?
Check for trouble codes.
Check fuel pressure and throttle linkages.
Check spark plugs and igntion related components.
Chec transmission fluid level.

Does engine run smoothly when idling?
