Engine will stall out while driving, after about 20 minutes. Have never had this problem when engine is cold or warming up to operating temp. After waiting 10-15 min, truck will start up and run normal for 15-25 min, then stall out again. This has happened at least 6 times lately. One item I would like to change is the ignition ballast relay but cannot locate it. My manual says it is on the firewall, but cannot locate it inside or outside. Have also checked the fender wells to no avail. Would appreciate any advice you have. I think you have an excellent web site for us shade tree mechanics ! Ron

Hi,

What you described sounds like a faulty crankshaft position sensor. When they start to fail, they are adversely affected by heat. Once they cool a bit, they work again.

Do me a favor. Take a look through this link and let me know if it mirrors what you experience:

If you feel that could be the issue, check to see if the ignition spark to the spark plugs is present. If it isn't, suspect the sensor.

Here is a link that explains how to test for spark:

If you decide to replace the sensor, here is a link that explains in general how it's done:

If you look at the attachments below, they provide the directions specific to this vehicle.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
