I own a 1996 Audi A4 Quattro. I bought it two weeks ago. On Saturday it ran fine, I went to run errands and had shut my car off. When I started my car to leave it didn't want to start the first time. The second time I tried if fired up. Driving it home it was running funny. Once it hit about 3000 rpm it would lose power. I would have to down shift for it to go up hills. Once I got home I shut it off. Now it refuses to Start. When I turn the key I can hear the fuel pump kick on so I know it's not that. It's just not catching a spark. What could be doing this? I am so heart broken. I just bought this car.

Have the fuel pressure checked. Although you can hear the fuel pump humming, that does not give you an indication of the pressure it produces. With the engine idling the pressure should be 55-61 psi. (With engine idling and warm the pressure should be around 46-55 psi)

If pressure is low, check for a clogged fuel filter or restriction in the lines before condemning the fuel pump. Let me know how it goes.
