Driving on the highway or street the car will drop into a lower gear causing higher rpm, engine over heat, slower ground speed til I have no alternative but to stop, park the car. The next morning the problem is gone.

So your driving down the road then the car down shifts into 3rd gear and wont go back into 4th?So does the car overheat at idle or any other time besides when this happens?Also do you have any codes?Have you checked for codes yet?
