Starts but then shuts off on its own

They other night my van started making a funny noise from the front engine area. The next morning I went to turn my van over and there was nothing. So we boosted it, took two cranks and it started up, then about five minutes later the noise came back and within minutes the van shut off all on its own.

Hello,

It sounds like you might have a malfunctioning alternator.
The noise you heard could be from the alternator pulley.
Typically, when the alternator is unable to charge the battery (with the engine running), the vehicle will stall as soon as the battery gets discharged.
First check under the hood. Inspect the belt to make sure it is in good shape.
