Single mom, newly divorced, broke & desperate! My only transportation is 1995 Jaguar XJ12. Had this car diagnosed by Jag Dealer twice in last two months. Cost $600 plus for diagnosis but recommended repairs didn't fix the problem. Towed back to dealership($180) again and now they diagnosed for 2 hours($230) and said they need another $800 in diagnostic fees to test electrical! I feel like I am being taken advantage of! The car starts fine every time. Runs for 1-2 hours and then stops. Here is what they tell me now; 1. THE CAR RAN FOR APPROX. 45 MINUTES BEFORE ANYTHING UNUSUAL HAPPEN, AFTER APPROX. 1 MINUTE OF FLUCTUATION IDLE SPEED, CAR STARTED TO SHUT DOWN. 2) THE CAR STARTED RIGHT AFTER IT SHUT DOWN. 3) PERFORMED TEST OF IGNITION POSITVE RELAY, LOCATED IN RIGHT SIDE REAR FUSE BOX WAITED FOR IT TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN, THE RELAY TESTED GOOD AT THIS TIME. 4) RESTARTED CAR TO TEST THE IGNITION POSITIVE RELAY IN THE ENGINE COMPARMENT, RAN CAR UNTIL IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN, THE RELAY TESTED GOOD AT THIS TIME. 5) REMOVED ITEMS IN TRUNK, REMOVE TRIM PANELCOVER OVER THE FUEL SYSTEM, TESTED THE ELECTRICAL SYTSTEM POWERING THE FUEL PUMPS AND SET UP FUEL PRESSURE TEST, TESTED THE FUEL SYSTEM, CAR RAN FOR 2 HOURS BEFORE IT SHUT DOWN, THE PUEL PUMP RELAYS AND FUEL PRESSURE WERE OK UPON VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. 6) CHARGED THE BATTERY OVERNIGHT, BATTERY TESTED BAD THE NEXT DAY, (12.3VOLTS AND 136CCA) They want to replace battery &PErFORM A PIN TEST OF THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND THE 90 PLUS WIRES GOING TO THE ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER, ENGINE SENSORS, ALONG WITH WIRE VOLTAGE TESTING. ESTIMATE TO FURTHER TEST THE SYSTEM AS DESCRIBED IN THIS LINE $815.00. Research I have done says this could be an oxygen sensor relay, easy & inexpensive to replace. Can you please help me!

From what I gather here is that this car starts after it shuts down. Does it shut down on idle or while running? If your battery is bad it WILL effect the wa the computer sees thing, so if you haven' talready geta battery and that may fix it, but it may not. Also make sure your cable ends are clean dn your grounds are clean going to engine and body. You can either print this or do it yourself. You may need to disconnect nuts/bolts to do this. Also get a can of choke cleaner-arond $3-4 and take the air duct off the throttle body and clean the throttle plate on both sides. Then hook up the air duct again. The car may start hard after doing this if it does hold the pedal to the floor and it should start. Then see what happens if it continues to quit. ANY auto repair shop should be able to do this not only a dealer.
