Originally the car wouldn't go into parking and found the bullet come out of the back of the gear shifter on the bracket. I put it back in and tightened it in drive, to begin with it wouldn't shift into overdrive now it won't shift out of first gear. I'm wondering if I might have had a kink in the cable when I put it back together and that's what really caused it to stop shifting. Any thoughts or your opinion of what might have happened?

Check shifter as well as cable leading to trans. If ok then have trans guy look at it. It may be a governor or valve body problem

Could you go into a little more detail on what to look for. I did have the cable caught in the plastic when I put it back together. I also had it shifting up to third till it got up to temp and worked fine until I replaced the bolt.

Check where arrows are in pic for any breakage or looseness like to where cable is shown. Check for broken clip at transaxle as well as if transaxle lever (8) moves through all the ranges. It may be the shifter is broken and you need a new one or cable is messed up at trans axle or shifter end. It's best to have an assistant move this so you can see what is happening. I've included cable adjustment as well.
