Car will move from a stop but, after a short distance (about the time to shift into second) the car acts like it is in neutral. The engine can be reved but the car will not shift. If I stop all the way, I can then move again for about the same distance.

Thanks

Hi
Check engine light on? If so get codes read will help diagnose. Possible shift solenoid but they keep trans in a gear not put into neutral. Suspect low one-way clutch or intermediate band. Won't know till it is apart.
Hope this helps Thanks for donate
Do you have rev? Can you manual shift?

Docfixit,

I am so sorry for the slow reply. Had an emergency in the family.

To better answer your questions, I took a drive in it and found that the tran. Will wind out in 1st and sit at that point for a few seconds before starting to slip. It never does shift into 2nd. I tried to shift into second manually and found that it will go into 2nd only after a few second slip from 1st. 2nd will not wind out all the way before the van starts jerking.
The check engine light is not on. And it does have reverse.

The owner said that he will get it checked for codes but, I wouldn't count on it. I just told him that he needed another transmission. Unless you know of a cheaper solution.

Thanks again for the reply.

Hi
Need trans scanned for codes and proper operation of speed sensors and shift solenoids. If none are present then internal parts at fault warrenting a trans overhaul or replacement.
