Is the check engine light on? Have you checked to see if the catalytic converter is plugging? When was the last tune up?

The check engin light started blinking same time the rough running started. I was kinda thinkin the cat converter but the strong gas smell made me have to get another opinion.

Since the light started blinking at the same time as the problem, that tells me there is a misfire. You should have the computer scanned first to see what is causing the light to come on. It should direct you to the specific cylinder that is having an issue. It could be several things such as a fouled spark plug, short in a plug wire, stuck injector. Since you smell raw fuel from the exhaust, one or more of the cylinders are not firing allowing raw fuel to be expelled through the exhaust.
