How do I loosen tension on the drive belt? It slipped off one pulley. I want to slip it back on so that I can drive a short distance to a repair shop. Do I start by removing the alternator? Or do I try to stretch it back on with tools?

Belts do not slip off for ho reason. This means that you have a problem with one of the driven components that has to be found and resolved. If you put the belt back on, it will come right off again. Look for a pulley that is leaning or loose.

There is a spring loaded tensioner that keeps it tight.
