Starter not working

My car won't start even after I installed a new battery. It won't even turn over, but the lights will still work. Is it the starter moter or the solenoid (don't know if I spelled that correctly)?

It could be the starter, solenoid, ignition switch, starter relay, security system or park and Neutral switch.

Just had the 3 ignition coils replaced, spark plug wires and spark plugs, and a new battery. 2 weeks later I turn the key and it does nothing. No clicking, no turning over, nothing. Battery gage is showing under 9.
I had all that stuff repaired because it was running rough and the check engine light came on. They did a diagnostic and said it was the ignition coils. Could this no start issue be related to that repair I just got? I did not drive the car much since the repair. Their work is still unter warranty but they are saying this has nothing to do with anything they did. Car started just fine when I took it to them. Thanks for any input.

Your battery is dead for whatever reason. The first step is to have it charged, then tested and go from there.

The battery isn't necessarily bad. Something else could have run it down. That's what you need to find out.

Check to make sure teminals are clean, and making good contact, then check to see if you have voltage going to the starter when you turn the key. If you do then the problem is the starter.

When I turn the key and get ready to start the car. All it does is make a sound like it wants to turn over but it. I dont know if it is not getting enough gas through the system or what it is.I just recently replaced the clutch and every thing was running good until today. Is there any way that something came loose and is why the car will not turn over?

Is the starter turning the engine at a normal speed? If so, have you checked for spark and fuel to the engine?

Get a helper disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine atleast 3/16 away from ground-have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel related problem, Do you hear the fuel pump come On when you turn key on? If not check fuel pump fuse and fuel pump relay if okay-check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel filter/fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil packs, coil's resistances, cap and rotor, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors and computer Note: If it doesn't apply disregard it and keep testing

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems

with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time/broken or jumped timing

belt/chain.

I have a 1995 camaro with the 3.4l v6 in it. I recentley drove threw some deep water, half way in the car stalled and now it wont crank at all. You cant even turn it by hand all the way around it stops in the same spot every time, I have all oil out and plugs too starter is not even on right now I just would like to know if my motor is blown from a bent rod or somethin or if im just over looking other things to try I would appreciate it if you could help so I dont have to trash the car thanks.

Yes I have got all plugs out and all oil drained like I said the starter is off too and you still can't crank it all the way over it stops at the same spot every time.

I turn the key on and all the lights and fan come on, but it wont crank. Wont make a sound. I tightened the battery terminals and still nothing. Do you know what it could be?

Check fuse #16 three AMPS If okay at the starter motor on purple wire, while someone turns key to the run position, check that you get power to that wire. If okay verify you have power on the battery cable at the starter which diagram says is black. If less the battery voltage then you have high resistance on that wire. Make sure battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion. If all is good then the starter is defective.

The problem comes and goes and is becoming very annoying. It only happens when the car is hot. Somtimes it will start hot and sometimes it wont. The starter motor sounds as if its trying to turn a engine that is out of time. Really slow cranks that arent fast enough to allow the engine to fire and it will drain the battery within a few minutes if you keep trying. I have also spotted small amounts of smoke coming from the engine compartment if you engage the starter too long. If you let the car cool down for a few hours and try again it will fire right up. The car always starts cold, ALWAYS. WTF! Is the starter solenoid getting too hot VIA heat from the exaust or can a sensor cause this problem. Coolant temperature sensor maybe? Is the alternator over charging the battery? The voltage meter goes to its usual position everytime the car is running (14 or so volts running from the 12 with the engine off, stock indash volt meter so I know the alternator is charging and the battery is 6 months old) Any help would be great. Thx!
