What are the symptoms of a water pump going out on a 1995 Buick Lasabre?

When trying to start the car, it will begin to turn over but there is a metl to metal rattle sound, then it cuts out. It has ben stalling out while driving also. We recently changes the serpentine belt and had to bypass the air condioner. It will not start at all now.

A water pump usually leaks when it fails, check your battery and charging system. The grinding noise mayhave been the alternator whic it may have failed. Most auto parts stores can check the alternator for free.
