The timing marks line up, but I don't have the tools to compression check it. Is there a senser or something that would need to be replaced or reset.

Auto zone rents compression testers again I would check the compression of all the cylinders.

Electrical problem
1994 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles

Car will not start sometimes but putting the car in N, messing with the shifter, or just waiting for a while and it starts just fine. When the car will not start all of the electrical acts as if the battery is dead (new battery). When I turn the key to on the lights will work but if I turn the key or press the brakes all the juice goes. Playing with the shifter seems to do something because after a few minutes it works.

Hi, my camry wont start, not too long ago it had blown head gasket wich I replaced, after putting everything back together it wouldnt start, the engine turns but does not start. A mechanic came to my house and suggested I changed my distributor cap and assembly, I did. When I turn the key, the engine turns but no start, there is also some some smoke coming from the distributor even though it is brand new. Can you help?

Disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 ground it to the engine and have helper crank engine over-Do you have a snapping blue spark.

If there's no spark -you won't get fuel delivery.

Did you put engine no.1 cylinder on its compression stroke/TDC and line all the sprockets in order?

So I just checked it and there was no spark coming from the spark plug wires. Everything was put on TDC before putting it back together according to the instructions on the manual that I have.

This is how your ignition system works-In the distributor is has a pick-up coils that sends the Ne and G signals to the computer-when the computer receives these signals as an indications of engine RPM and pistons positions-the computer will send an Igt signal to the Ignitor to fire the coil at which time the ignitor will issue an Igf signal back to the computer that combustion has occured and the process repeats-

Check the coil's primary and secondary resistances and also the ignitor

We have changed the fuel pump, distributor cap, rotor bud, car still wont start. Its not getting fire to the spark plugs.
We have checked the spark plugs, plug wires, all fuses, and it still will not start.
It sounds like it wants to, but it wont.

Chapter 5 fig 5-4 is this your type of distributor? Pull the wire from the center of the distributor cap and ground it to check for spark

Also check the ignitor and wiring from the distributor to the computer

That is my distributor but there is no wire coming from the center. Is there some sort of ohmmeter or something that I need to check the ignitor? The wires seem fine, Ill recheck again tomorrow morning

Look for code/s jump Te-1 to E-1 on the diagnostic connector-count the flashes from the yellow check light. measure the resistances of the pick-up coil and the coil-when this 2 checks out -am thinking ignitor
