Sounds like a coil breaking down under load.

I CONCUR,

I HAD SIMILAR ISSUES WITH MY WIFE'S FORD ESCAPE

Repetitive, fast hesitation, lasting 1-2 seconds, more evident climbing a incline, while slowly administering gas. Random or none on level ground.

---No codes ---

cleaned 1st, and/ or replaced the following:

New Plugs. Then "genuine plugs". Bah-Hum-bug, nothing wrong with the other new ones, I just installed!

Boots and springs (SPARK JUMPING THRU?)

air filter

MAF

EGR

A new IAC for Poops & Giggles!

Mega Vacuum leak search several times.

MY APPROACH WAS TO BE MR. CHEAPNESS GUY! (AS USUAL)

AFTER MANY SUGGESTIONS, RECOMMENDED TESTS, I COULD DO MYSELF, AND SOME PARTS CHANGING--IT CAME DOWN TO THIS:

USE A "RIDE AROUND ANALYZER" OR BUY A NEW COIL AND START SWAPPING IT WITH THE OTHERS, TILL I FOUND THE CULPRIT (AT THE TIME, THIS STILL WAS JUST GUESSING, WHAT WAS WRONG)

THE ESCAPE WAS SKIPPING, BUT IT WAS INTERMITTENT, AND MAINLY WHEN CLIMBING A HILL. WIFEY MAINLY STAYED IN TOWN, AND I HAVE A CAR DOLLY. JUST IN CASE! I PLAYED WITH IT OFF AND ON FOR 2 MONTHS. I GOT A LITTLE WORSE.

I WENT TO OUR LOCAL TECH SCHOOL, AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THEIR RIDE AROUND ANALYZER TO RUN TESTS. THIS WAS A GOOD THING! THEY WANTED A $25 DONATION FOR THE SCHOOL TO USE IT ON OUR RIG. AT THE LAST MINUTE, THEY HAD SOME SORT OF FACULTY PROBLEM AND I WOULD HAVE TO RESCHEDULE.

NOT WANTING TO WAIT, I DECIDED TO GET A "GOOD" "USED" COIL FROM THE SALVAGE YARD ($10)---YES, I'M CHEAP! BUT THIS WAS JUST TO TEST WITH!

AFTER SWAPPING AROUND THE COILS, I FOUND #6 TO BE THE PROBLEM, I BOUGHT A NEW ONE, AND NOW HAVE A "GOOD SALVAGE YARD COIL" IN MY TESTING INVENTORY! THE NEW ONE WAS AROUND $80 (YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW, BUT THIS IS THE "REAL SHORT VERSION" OF THIS STORY!)

HER RIG HAS OVER 100,000 MILES, SO I DIDN'T MIND THE NEW PARTS, THAT DIDN'T FIX IT, I VIEW IT AS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE. I STILL FEEL I GOT OUT A LOT CHEAPER THAN TAKING IT TO A SHOP.

IN THE END, I WALKED UP TO HER ESCAPE, AND EXCLAIMED, "I WON!"
