Engine trouble

My ford ranger will randomly lose engine power when I go to press the gas. It will just pulsate or surge but there is no accelaration. Just lots of hesitation but other times it runs great and then all of a sudden the problem will come back

Has the check engine light come on? Also, have you checked fuel pump pressure? Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Yes the check engine light is on. I have changed the fuel pump but the gasket was installed right afterwards so now when you fill the tank all the way it leaks. And no I haven't checked fuel pump pressure or vacuum leaks
