U joint or tranny

My 94 chevy astro van starts out in drive kinda shakes and clanks around when starting out in 1st gear could this be a u-joint on drive shaft going bad?

Absolutely. Shift out of park with the wheels blocked or the parking brake set if it works, then crawl underneath and try turning the drive shaft and moving it up and down. Also look for reddish brown rust and powder around the bearing cups.
