1994 Buick Park Avenue valve body or transmission

When in (D) vehicle will accelerate to about 20 mph then transmission disengages and engine will red line. If in (3) vehicle will maintain top speed 40 mph and trans will remain engaged. RPM @ 4000. Not sure which is the problem. Many friends advise to clean the valve body. Other advise to rebuild the transmission.

Cleaning valve body is a possibility but I doubt it. You have internal failures here causing it to disengage completely. Re building is most likely the correct answer
