I've got a '93 honda civic that has started this weird surging, rev-ing of the engine on its own when idle, either in park or at a light. Then all of a sudden last week I was driving to work and my temp gauge was maxed out and seconds later "boom" one of the main hoses busted. I replaced that and thought all was cool. The parts guy told me I could have had a stuck thermostat. So after replacing the hose, filling up with radiator fluid, two days go by and the same thing - skyrocketing temp. I replaced the thermostat. But same problem continues with me filling up radiator every couple days. Is my head gasket blown?

If you need to replenish the radiator very often, it could mean a leak somewhere or a bad head gasket. Is the recovery tank overflowing or depleting?

Have you checked the radiator cap condition?
Are the coolig fans working correctly?
Was system bled of air?
