Transmission only works in reverse

My automatic transmission will not drive in d4 d3 2 or 1 but it will engage in Reverse. I have to apply slow pressure to the gas pedal for the vehicle to move reverse. I checked the resistance on the lock up and control solenoid and replaced the TPS. There is a high pitch whine coming from the transmission where it meets the motor but when I apply pressure to the throttle control lever the whining sound will temporarily go away then returns when I steady the rpms no matter the rpm.

What does your transmission fluid look like?Sounds like the transmission is no good.

First check the fluid level. It maybe a bad converter or a clogged up filter causing the noise. You need to take ithim him to a tranny shop and let them perform a pressure test on it.

Fluid was changed with in the last 10k miles so it's clean and the level is within limits of the dipstick. I know how to do a pressure test what exactly should I be looking for other then to high our to low pressure?

Good afternoon,

Check you main line pressure. It should be around 100-150 in drive and around 300 in reverse.

The bad part of this is the filter. It sounds like it is clogged and making it sound like a power steering pump whining from low fluid. That would require removal of the transmission and splitting the case.

10,000 was a long time ago and I would start there with the fluid.

Look for any debris in the fluid when you drain it out.
