I have a ford taurus1993 3.8 engine thats been sitting. It has not been started up for more than a year. Would like to start it up and put it to use. It used to run good before, so can I just try starting it up or is there anything I should do before I attempt to start it up

Add some fresh fuel. Change the air. Inspect the underhood area for animal nests and inspect the air intake hose for animal nests. If all is good fire it up.
