After extensive research on line I have been told this truck takes a 700R4, 4L60, 4L60E, and a 4L80E I can't seem to find a consensus and I want to order a replacement online and don't want to have to return it because I ordered the wrong transmission. Is there a definitive way that I can personally Identify which transmission is in this vehicle using the numbers on the housing perhaps or some other way?

It's eitehr going to be a 4L60E or 4L80E depending on whether it is a heavy duty or not. If the pan gasket is shaped like the picture it's a 4L60 or 4L60E also look for stamping on case on driver's side of trans. If it doesn't look like the gasket pictured it's a 4L80e

You can also count the bolts on the pan. If you have 16 it's a 4L60, 17 is what I have and it's a 4L80. You can also look in the glove box and look for the transmission code. If it's a 4L80 it will say MT1. All the codes should be in alphabetical order and easy to find. Unless someone removed the sticker.
