Car stalling like running out of gas

Where is check engine light bulb. It is not working and I think previous owner took it out because the car was not running right and wanted me not to know
also will the egr valve cause the car to sputter and shut off all the time. Had new fuel pump. Plugs wires and fuel filter and thermostat put on it.1992 dodge shadow 2.5 eng

You would have to remove the dash cluster and access it from the back side. If you shine a light through the hole, you should be able to see what the indication is at the front.
