Just finished changing the oil in my 1990 suburban. Started the engine and checked for leaks. Oil was practically pouring out of the filter area. I hand tightened the filter as tight as it could go, figuring it was loose. Oil not coming from filter, but upon closer inspection with a flashlight, it is coming from the area above the filter. Never leaked a drop prior to this? Any ideas?

Check the old filter for the rubber seal, it probably stuck to the mounting area, remove the filter and the old seal.

Thanks for the response. The oil is not leaking from where the filter screws on. It is coming from above the filter - I don't know what this part is called - oil filter adapter? To let you know, the old filter was stuck (I didn't put it on) and a had to wrestle it off. Eventually cutting the filter off and using needle nose pliers in the holes of the filter base with a long screwdriver wedged in the handle of the pliers to finally unscrew it.

Could it be the sender? If the mount cracked it will need to be replaced. Or maybe KB Weld might fix it.
