Dropped the tank and the strainer was clogged. Replaced the strainer and put tank back. Filled tank with gas and gas leaked out the back. The gasket had split. Dropped the tank, replaced the gasket and all is well (knock on wood). Still need to think about that odometer one of these days, but this bought some time. Thanks so much for your time and all of your help.

Well, maybe still a problem. The car started to sputter after a few days like before, it hasn't died yet. Any ideas? Could something have happened when the gasket was replaced?
