How to install a Distributor in a 1990 Dodge Dakota with a 3.9 Engine.

If you marked everything when you took distributor out. Put the distributor back the same way, line up the marks but before you can you must look down inside and move the oil pump drive slightly backwards this will allow the distributor to be placed in the same spot. Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

If engine was rotated with distributor out, make sure #1 piston is on top dead center of compression stroke. Stab the dist, you may have to work it a little to get gears to mesh. After you get the dist. Down and bolted, where ever the rotor is pointing, is #1 spark plug tower. Follow the firing order around the cap. Note info below
