The dash lights are not working

I need to know how to make the dash work it does not work. The check engine and brake and seat belt lights come on though. The illumination wire behind the stereo is unplugged could that be why its not working?

I mean the gauges are digital and they do not work the dont light up. I dont know how much gas I got or how fast im going or anything. But the seatbelt light and the service engine light do come on.
