My husband change out the thermostat on the car. We started it to let it run and make sure that it would still start. It started up and ran fine for a few minutes then just quit. The engine will turn over but not start. All the electrical for the car still comes on but the first time you turn the key there is a click from the engine bay and then the engine just continues to turn over without starting.

Start with the basics. You need air fuel spark and compression. If there was no loud noise when it quit then theres probably no serious damage. Id check for loose or disconnected wires on the distributor first. Also take out a spark plug and spin the motor over. You should hear a loud puffing as the engine turns. If not then the timing belt may have broken. If all these are fine then check for fuel. Take the fuel line loose at the fuel filter on the end that goes to the motor so when the key is turned on the fuel will flow through the filter and verify that it is good. If no fuel take the fuel filter off and key on again. If no fuel now check the fuel pump fuse and relay. If good then you probably need a fuel pump
